me [1] ► PRONOUN (first person sing. ) 1) used as the object of a verb or preposition or after ‘than’, ‘as’, or the verb ‘to be’, to refer to the speaker himself or herself. 2) N. Amer. informal to or for myself.

USAGE The pronoun me should be used as the object of a verb or preposition, as in John hates me or Come with me! It is wrong to use me as the subject of a verb, as in John and me went to the shops ; in this case I should be used instead.

ORIGIN mi, an arbitrary name for the note, taken from the first syllable of mira, in a Latin hymn.
